Biography of Steve Harris, MD

Dr. Steve Harris has practiced in Dothan as a member of Dothan ENT, Allergy & Asthma since 1989. He is from Mississippi and obtained a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Chemistry from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1977. He received his M.D. from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in 1981, and then entered Ear, Nose & Throat training at the University of Alabama Birmingham, completing Residency in June, 1986. Dr. Harris began active duty with the U.S. Air Force immediately after residency and attended the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base Texas, earning his Flight Surgeon’s wings in November, 1986. He served as staff Ear, Nose & Throat physician at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida from 1986-89, also serving as a Flight Surgeon with the 55th Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron and flying with the Aero Club at Eglin during that time. Dr. Harris has practiced in Dothan since 1989, apart from service with the Air Force in 1991 during the Gulf War as an activated Reservist.

Dr. Harris has a special interest in hearing and balance disorders and is actively involved in the Physician’s Hearing and Balance Center division of Dothan ENT


Apart from general Ear, Nose & Throat practice at Dothan ENT, Dr. Harris has a special interest in hearing and balance disorders and is actively involved in the Physician’s Hearing and Balance Center division of Dothan ENT, the area’s only center dedicated specifically to the diagnosis and treatment of balance problems.

Dr. Harris is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Alabama State Otolaryngology Society, serving as Secretary/Treasurer from 2000-2003. He has served on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Children’s Rehabilitation Service of the State of Alabama. Dr. Harris is a member of the Dothan-Houston County Rotary Club and Covenant United Methodist Church.

Dr. Harris and his wife Vicki have two teenage sons. He enjoys history, hunting with and shooting Blackpowder firearms, and ship modeling. He is a member of the Air Force Association and has given numerous talks to school groups on Aerospace Medicine over the years.
